5 Best Public Places to Visit in Bacalar 2026
A curated selection of magical, accessible, and responsible spots to enjoy the Lagoon of Seven Colors.
"Bacalar remains that turquoise paradise that everyone falls in love with. For 2026, the trend is clear: conscious tourism and real contact with nature. Far from the big private clubs, there are gems of public or very affordable access where you can experience the essence of the lagoon. Here are our top 5 favorites."
1. Ecological Dock (Muelle Ecológico)

If you are looking for the perfect photo without crowds, the Ecological Dock is the ideal option. It is one of the quietest and best-preserved public accesses. Being a protected area, the water usually looks clearer. It is perfect for walking, reading, or simply admiring the 7 shades of blue.
- Take your trash with you.
- Best time is at sunrise.
2. Cocalitos (Stromatolite Sanctuary)

Known as the "Sanctuary of Stromatolites", Cocalitos is a must-see. Here you will see the oldest living structures on the planet. The beach club has hammocks in the water and a very relaxed atmosphere.
- Do not step on or touch the stromatolites!
- Ideal for children due to shallow water.
3. Pirates Channel

Although not a land-based "public access" (you need to arrive by boat), it is THE public spot of the lagoon par excellence. A natural sand channel with waist-deep water, famous for its exfoliating sand and 18th-century pirate history.
- Cheapest way to get there is renting a kayak.
- Apply biodegradable sunscreen.
4. Los Rápidos

Located in the channel connecting Bacalar lagoon with Xul-Ha lagoon. The current here is natural and allows you to float "at full speed" (gentle but constant) among mangroves. A fun and unique experience.
- Always use a life jacket.
- Walk on wooden paths to protect nature.
5. Ejidal Beach Club (Mágico Bacalar)

The classic option right in downtown. It is the largest and most accessible beach club, featuring slides, a restaurant, and green areas. Best option for large families seeking comfort and good prices.
- Arrive early on weekends.
- Full restaurant service available.
Bacalar belongs to everyone, and protecting it is our responsibility. When visiting these spots, remember to use biodegradable sunscreen. Want to explore deeper? Check out our guided tours!
